Haven't been to Mendocino for a few years but every time I'm there I remember why I love Californias north coast. John broke a few land speed records to arrive for La Petite Rive's 5:30 pm seating and my unbelievably fantastic birthday dinner...
the place is tiny - only 6 tables...I had scallops, John had steak...but the highlight was the palate refresher, a viognier encrusted lemon sorbet!
Next morning - a beautiful Mendocino day!
and a gorgeous sunset...
Misha loved her first (with us) trip to the ocean and turned out to be a nimble rock climber.
and a very hungry and impatient dog waiting for lunch at the Mendocino Market
and loved sleeping late each morning...
After a beer at Patterson's Pub we landed at the Mendocino Hotel bar two of our three nights...the first night for my annual martini...this year a pomegranate version.
The conversation is always great at this bar. One night John and I chatted with a fellow who was retired from his job as a thermal nuclear bomb engineer. He took this photo of us and had the same camera I have. I feel like a rocket scientist now!
Here's the The Blair House, home of Murder She Wrote and now a B&B...it can be yours for $1.6 million. Bring your dog - they allow pets:)
A funky spider web...courtesy of spiders on mushrooms
Some purple ocean flowers....look at the petals....
and the tallest lighthouse in California in Point Arena. (You have to open the link for the sound effect).
That's the quick trip recap. I'm home for a bit now. Happy Thanksgiving!
Michele
