This year I made a smart move and scheduled a museum art day post Artfest. I'll try and pull this feat off in the future, whenever possible...because after four days of total art immersion, your brain is much more aware of every color, brushstroke, composition, technique...you get the idea.
I did some internet research and decided Tacoma would be my museum destination. This is artist Dale Chihuly's "glass ceiling" on the overpass between the Museum of Glass in Tacoma and the Tacoma Art Museum
and a flower and bud in a purple vase
just part of a whole wall of glass...
And just because I like a good joke as much as the next gal, here's a photo of my artist friend, Roberta.
At the last minute she decided to accompany me on my great museum adventure and we had a wonderful time...much more fun then sitting in an airport:). Check out Roberta's blog not only for her Artfest review but to view her wonderful art!
This is the outside of the glass museum "hotbox," where they were creating a glass sculpture designed by a young boy. The child was sitting in the front row of the amphitheater with his brother and parents - what a remarkable experience to watch as artists bring your drawing to life!
Frankly, the best part of the museum was the Kids Design Glass exhibit - there are 52 colorful artworks. The exhibit ends October 31st.
This is the catwalk where people can watch the artists at work. There is also ampitheater style seating and a video screen so everyone can enjoy.
After the glass museum we walked over to the Art Museum. No pics allowed, but if you're in Tacoma before June 27th, I highly recommend the The Secret Language of Animals exhibit. The promotional image they use doesn't even begin to do this exhibit justice... the museum is small but packs in a lot of great art.
Great day in Tacoma. Who Knew?
